| Beavers Earn 2-1 Win Versus Lancers | The Toronto Beavers had to overcome a good performance from Detroit pitcher Justin Chipman to claim a 2-1 win at Thompson Field. Chipman went 7.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Beany Nilsson was the winner. Over 7 innings, he yielded 1 run on 10 hits, with no walks and 2 strikeouts. Detroit, at 54-59, has lost 6 straight.
Ron Powell came through with a big-time hit for Toronto. The pinch hitter smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"From the last whatever, five, six, seven games, there's really only one way to go and that's up," said losing manager Frank McGrath.
