| Pioneers Best Gothams in Pitching Duel | The New York Gothams wasted an inspired, 8-inning effort from starter Jack Pette, falling, 2-1, to the St. Louis Pioneers at Pioneer Field. Picking up the win was Pat Sanders. He went 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits. The right--hander struck out 3 and walked 1. By defeating New York, the 7th-place Pioneers improved to 53-64.
The Pioneers benefited from a costly error in the bottom of the first. With Seth Mandelbaum at bat and St. Louis leading 1-0, the New York miscue allowed St. Louis to plate 1 and take the lead, 2-0.
"We found a way to get it done," Mandelbaum said. | | | | | |
