| Baltimore Blanked by Perez, 4-0 | The New York Stars shut out the Baltimore Cannons, 4-0, behind the strong pitching of Joe Perez. Perez surrendered only 7 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 3.
Following the last out, Perez appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Baltimore manager Monty Beatson, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken left-hander as the clubs left the field. Perez's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Cannons skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Stars press conference, Perez confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Perez said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," New York manager Eli Moses added.
This year, Perez has fashioned a 13-7 mark, 2.57 ERA and pitched 221 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .261 against him and he has logged 90 strikeouts. | | | | | |
