| Cincinnati Beats Washington as Weisner Throws 3-0 Shutout | Before the game, Gus Weisner said he liked his chances. His instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing at Capital Grounds, the Monarchs pitcher blanked the Washington Eagles, 3-0.
"I just had a feeling it was going to be my day," Weisner said in the clubhouse afterward. "My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."
The Cincinnati starter held Washington scoreless, giving up 4 hits while registering 3 strikeouts and issuing 2 walks.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," Eagles manager Roger Patterson said in a postgame interview. "When that happens, you usually lose."
Weisner has a 7-19 season record so far. In 30 starts, he has fanned 109 batters in 253 innings with a 2.95 ERA. | |
