| Keystones Fall to Pioneers Late | Baseball fans saw a good contest between the St. Louis Pioneers and Philadelphia Keystones.
Gavvy Hubbard made an impact in the 6-4 St. Louis win over Philadelphia. Hubbard, who finished 2nd in the FL in runs with 88 last year, went 4 for 4 with 4 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Joe Taylor got the win, improving to 6-4. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 1.
Had Hubbard not come through in the top of the ninth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Hubbard hit a run-scoring single. The Pioneers took the lead, 5-4, and never looked back.
St. Louis manager Joe Whitcomb commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
St. Louis has 3 straight wins, Philadelphia 5 straight losses.
