| Weisner at His Best, Blanks St. Louis | The St. Louis Pioneers manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Cincinnati Monarchs. The Pioneers were overpowered by Cincinnati starter Gus Weisner, who hurled his club to victory, 2-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Roy Bledsoe said.
Over 10 innings, Weisner blanked St. Louis on 2 hits with no walks and 3 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Weisner said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
This season, Weisner has 5 wins and 17 losses and a 3.01 ERA. | |
