| Eagles Lose to Saints, 6-2 | The Montreal Saints scooped up a win at Capital Grounds, dumping the Washington Eagles, 6-2. Tom Schwanke, who is tied for 5th in the FL in quality starts with 22, was essential to his team's success. Schwanke yielded 2 runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. His record improves to 10-14. The setback makes Washington 41-57.
Montreal right fielder Bill Jessee contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a slider to left-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 81st hit of the season and put the Saints ahead, 3-2.
"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Saints manager Jim Jenkins.
