Chicago Wins, 6-5, Over Keystones | The Chicago Chiefs did just enough to sneak past the Philadelphia Keystones, 6-5, at Whitney Park. Chicago third baseman Ed Bloom, in particular, had a standout performance. Dutch Lane, 5-2, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Chicago, now 32-24, holds down second place in the Federal Association.
Had Rod Shearer not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Shearer hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Chiefs.
"I play this game for myself and my family, but of course it's always nice when we can win," said Shearer. | |
