Oakland pinch hitter Joe Herman played a vital role in his team's 8-5 triumph over Dallas. He was 1-1 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for Oakland. The winning pitcher was Johnny Cook. His record is now 2-3. The right-hander went 8 innings, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits for the Grays. Bill Douglass closed it out for his 2nd save.

Herman had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 0-2 sinker from Mac Watters, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Grays a 8-5 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Herman.

"We maximized our offense today," said Oakland skipper Bill Hunter. "That makes everyone's life easier."

The win gives Oakland a record of 17-12.
