Sailors Nip Foresters, 2-1 | Starting pitcher Hank Lacey gave the San Francisco Sailors a rock-solid effort. The Indianapolis, Indiana native helped his team defeat the Cleveland Foresters, 2-1, at Forester Stadium. San Francisco reliever Eddie Chapman picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Johnny Ogden absorbed the loss. Larry Knez finished the game for San Francisco and earned his 1st save.
San Francisco used the timely hitting of John Mayon to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Sailors on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Every play was important. Every out was important," said Sailors manager Chris Beck.
The win has San Francisco at 1-2. | |
