| Bulls Flatten Centurions, 9-1 | The 1949 season is off to a good start for the Houston Bulls. The hometown Bulls knocked off the Dallas Centurions, 9-1, at Bulls Stadium. Houston pitcher Tommy Shafer paced his team to the win. Shafer, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 9, walking 3, and allowing 1 run.
Art Cascone, who finished 5th in the GWL in on-base percentage with .384 in 1946, chipped in for Houston with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.
