| Sailors Get Clutch Win Versus Los Angeles | The San Francisco Sailors bested the Los Angeles Stars by a score of 6-5, with left fielder Charlie Jarzombek getting the main credit. On the day, Jarzombek went 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles for the Sailors. San Francisco pitcher Johnny Baylor earned the win, hiking his record to 3-2. John Herzog suffered the loss. The Stars fall to 10-14 and continue their uneven start to the 1975 season.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Joe Franklin came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Los Angeles pitcher Clay Buddemeyer, he hit a 1-1 slider for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting San Francisco on top, 6-4.
"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Jarzombek told the San Francisco Gazette. | |
