| Monarchs Blank Brooklyn, Rainville Winner | The Brooklyn Kings were almost helpless in their 2-0 loss to the Cincinnati Monarchs and hurler Roger Rainville. Rainville kept the Kings confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Rainville," Brooklyn manager Jack Fairchild said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 22-year-old left-hander had 1 walk and no strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Rainville said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
For the season, Rainville is batting .248 with 27 hits and 1 home run. He has scored 14 times and batted in 12. | |
