Pioneers Edge Miners, 5-4 | The St. Louis Pioneers picked up a win at Pioneer Field III, knocking off the Pittsburgh Miners, 5-4. Starting pitcher Charlie Blake played a key role in the triumph. Blake picked up the win for St. Louis, going 8 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 6-3. John Gibson, who finished 3rd in the CA in saves with 21 in 1957, earned the save for St. Louis.
The Pioneers got a big at-bat from first baseman Dixie Hutchings. For the game, Hutchings was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave St. Louis a 5-4 lead.
