| Stars Sunk by Mechanics | The Pittsburgh Mechanics downed the New York Stars, 5-1, at Riverside Stadium II. Stellar pitching by Casey Edwards had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is tied for 8th in the UL in quality starts with 6, handcuffed his opponent all game. Edwards, now 5-3, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Pittsburgh is now 18-14, while New York is 17-15.
There was more than one reason the Mechanics beat the Stars, but Edwards's big at-bat in the top of the fourth was an important factor. He staked his team to a 3-1 lead when he hit a 2-run double.
"Feels good to get the job done," Edwards said after the game.
