| Houston Slaps 5-3 Loss on Los Angeles | The Houston Comets bumped off the Los Angeles Suns, 5-3, at Wilshire Park. Wally Austin hit 2 singles and 1 double. He also had 2 runs batted in. Pete Jones, the winning pitcher, is now 2-0. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, while fanning 3 and walking 3. Bob Young closed out the game, earning his 7th save.
Houston used the timely hitting of Bill Blair to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Comets on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Austin told the Houston News.
The win puts Houston at 14-10.
