| Minutemen Suffer One-Run Loss at Baltimore | Boston left fielder Dick Ward was sensational. He was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles. He scored 2 times. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Baltimore beat the Minutemen, 6-5. Buck Guthrie got the win, improving to 4-1. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 9 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Davey Cronin closed out the game, earning his 2nd save.
The Clippers benefited from a costly error in the bottom of the fifth. With Hank Wallace at bat and Baltimore leading 4-0, the Boston miscue allowed Baltimore to plate 1 and take the lead, 5-0.
In comments to the Baltimore Observer, Wallace admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
The Minutemen, now 4-12, continue their inauspicious start. | |
