| Dynamos Score Late, Clip Pioneers, 5-4 | The Detroit Dynamos had to overcome a fine effort from St. Louis pitcher Milo Kennedy to win, 5-4, at Pioneer Field III. Kennedy went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winner in relief was Pedro Castro. He is now 2-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Dick Butler closed out the game, earning his 1st save.
Detroit used the timely hitting of Harvey Van Orden to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Dynamos on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said St. Louis manager Babe Johnson. "But we decided not to take it."
The loss makes St. Louis 5-16.
