| Gift Shuts Out Chicago | The Chicago Chiefs were almost helpless in their 7-0 loss to the New York Gothams and hurler Tom Gift. Gift kept the Chiefs confused all game, spinning a 1-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Gift," Chicago manager Willie Cadden said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 30-year-old right-hander had 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Gift said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
This season, Gift has fanned 76 in 200.2 innings and collected a 15-7 record with a 1.79 ERA. | | | | | |
