Lancers Stumble, Losing to Mechanics, 5-3
Starting pitcher Robert Mitchell pitched well enough to help the Pittsburgh Mechanics beat the Detroit Lancers, 5-3. Randy Boroughs was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 15 of 20 save opportunities. The Mechanics improved their record to 49-43 by beating Detroit.

In the top of the 6th, pinch hitter Dusty DePasse gave Pittsburgh the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Mechanics had been trailing 3-2, but the two-out single off Detroit pitcher Andy McCay changed that -- and Pittsburgh went on to win.

"Robert set the tone with his ability to attack the hitters," said Pittsburgh manager Jim Clement.
