Gothams Lose to Chiefs in Walk-Off | Al Padgett impressed in the 6-5 Chicago win over New York. Padgett, who is tied for 8th in the FA in home runs with 9, went 3-6 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Chicago reliever Al Mielcarek got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jim Hawkins was tagged with the loss. The 4th-place Chiefs improved to 26-22.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 12th. With no one out, Padgett hit a cutter from Jim Hawkins for a solo home run. The Chiefs, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"We battled our tails off to get this win," said Chicago manager Dutch Becker. | |
