| Grays Earn Late 5-4 Win | The Cleveland Grays faced a tough opponent in Detroit pitcher Justin Chipman, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Thompson Field by a final score of 5-4. Chipman went 10.1 innings and allowed 4 runs. Alfred Cicchino, 2-3, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 4 innings. The Lancers drop to 11-17.
The Grays beat the Lancers in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Bob Albertson produced in the top of the 13th. Batting against Red Saalman, Albertson gave his team the lead, 5-4, when he hit a run-scoring single.
"The game of baseball will test you," said Will Jackson, the Cleveland skipper. "This one tested us."
