| Saints Squeeze By New York, 5-4 | The Montreal Saints downed the New York Gothams, 5-4, at Parc Dumfries. Tom Gross led the way, going 3-for-4 for Montreal. Bill Eshleman got credit for the win, improving to 3-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The win puts Montreal at 52-45 this season.
Had Dave Christensen not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Christensen hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Saints.
"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Saints manager Jim Jenkins.
