| Gothams Come Up Short at Cincinnati, 2-1 | Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the Cincinnati Monarchs and New York Gothams.
The Cincinnati Monarchs downed the New York Gothams, 2-1, at Vine Street Base Ball Grounds. Stellar pitching by Orval Harrison had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 4th in the FL in saves with 8, handcuffed his opponent all game. The Monarchs lead the Federal League by a game.
Cincinnati shortstop Joe Harrison contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a screwball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 65th hit of the season and put the Monarchs ahead, 2-0.
"We were in it," said New York manager Bob Kuhl. "We just didn't score enough runs."
