| Cincinnati Downed, 4-2, by Eagles | The Washington Eagles picked up a win at Vine Street Base Ball Grounds, knocking off the Cincinnati Monarchs, 4-2. Starting pitcher Bill Pisani played a key role in the triumph. Pisani, now 1-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Picking up his 4th save was 32-year old right-handed pitcher Bert Behrendt.
Washington used a timely hit from Paul Krawczyk to get the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Eagles ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"I felt strong out there," said Pisani.
So far, the 1917 season has been disappointing for Cincinnati, now 13-17.
