| Chicago Blanks Washington, 4-0 | The Washington Eagles manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Chicago Chiefs. The Eagles were overpowered by Chicago starter Harry Hartmann, who hurled his club to victory, 4-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Frank Moorman said.
Over 9 innings, Hartmann blanked Washington on 6 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Hartmann said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
Checking out his stats for the season, Hartmann has racked up 25 wins and 15 losses in 42 starts, posted a 2.76 ERA, and struck out 112 batters in 361.1 innings. | |
