The Chicago Blues eked out a 3-2 win versus the Detroit Lancers at Thompson Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Russ Hoover. He was terrific. Chicago goes to 42-47, Detroit to 41-44.

Chicago took a 3-2 lead on Bob Wojtkiewicz's 19th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Wojtkiewicz hit in the top of the eighth, left Detroit pitcher John Humphreys visibly frustrated.

"Getting the win feels nice," said Hoover. "More importantly, I had a good game."
