Imperials Defeat Wranglers in 10 | The New York Imperials faced a tough opponent in Dallas pitcher Charlie Mills, but found a way to pull out the victory at Dyckman Stadium by a final score of 6-5 in 10 innings. Mills went 7.2 innings and allowed 1 run. New York reliever Marv Rafalko picked up the win, raising his record to 1-1. Chet Baker was tagged with the loss. The Wranglers, now 9-16, continue their poor start.
The climactic moment came in the bottom of the tenth for New York. That's when 27-year old right fielder Jack Woods hit a 2-run home run off Chet Baker to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Woods told the New York Herald. "But we take nothing for granted." | |
