| Minutemen Drop Eagles, 7-4 | The Boston Minutemen beat the Washington Eagles, 7-4, in 10 innings. Boston pitcher and Huron, South Dakota, native Charlie Roberts led the way. Boston reliever Bud Shireman got the win, raising his record to 1-2. Doc Lindley was tagged with the loss. The Minutemen, with just their 4th win in 14 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
Boston used the timely hitting of Dick Wood to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Minutemen on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"That's what these guys do," said Minutemen manager Dode Edwards. "They battle, they fight." | |
