Chiefs Sneak By Gothams, 3-2
In a low-scoring contest between the Chicago Chiefs and the New York Gothams, Benny Crowell, who finished 2nd in the FL in ERA with 2.16 in 1913, proved to be the difference. The Chicago right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Chiefs win. Crowell, who finished 5th in the FL in wins with 21 in 1912, went the distance for Chicago. He gave up 2 runs on 8 hits. With the win, Chicago raised its record to 46-42.

Chicago took a 3-2 lead on Sam Harris's 10th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Harris hit in the bottom of the eighth, left New York pitcher Charles Heim visibly frustrated.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said New York manager Bob Kuhl. "But we decided not to take it."
