The New York Stars overcame a pretty good performance by Pittsburgh shortstop Rogelio Gomez, beating the Mechanics, 9-8, at Riverside Stadium II. Gomez was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. The third-place Stars have won 13 in a row.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when New York second baseman Jack McDermott, facing Randy Boroughs, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Stars the 9-8 win.

"The team is playing at a high level," said Stars manager Eli Moses.
