| Riley Swings Copperheads to 8-1 Win | The Atlanta Copperheads defeated the Minneapolis Millers, 8-1, at Peachtree Stadium. Leading the charge for Atlanta was first baseman Don Riley. He was 3-3 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Harry Inge, who threw 100 pitches over 7 innings. The right-hander was charged with no runs on 3 hits. Minneapolis is now 9-9.
With Atlanta leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Riley hit a fastball from Ike Hawley for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Copperheads ahead, 4-0.
"If you don't take any pitches off, you've got a chance to impact the game, and that's what we did," said Atlanta skipper Don Fox. | |
