| Copperheads Stun Gothams, 6-3 | The New York Gothams got a sterling performance from pitcher Jake Watkins, but the Atlanta Copperheads still prevailed, 6-3. Watkins threw 7.0 innings of 1-hit ball. Ike Abraham, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. The loss puts New York at 6-9.
Atlanta took a 6-3 lead on Earl Skains's 1st home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which Skains hit in the bottom of the eighth, left New York pitcher Jeff Pettigrew visibly frustrated.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Skains. | |
