Chicago Cougars starter Roger Alford turned in a top-notch performance against the San Francisco Sailors at Golden Gate Stadium. The result was a win for the Cougars, 7-2. Alford, now 2-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. The loss puts San Francisco at 8-11.

Chicago used a well-timed hit by Tom Lorang to capture the win. The third baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Cougars ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

"Solid performance from our side," said Cougars manager Pug Bryan.
