Mechanics Raise Rally Flag, Beat Cleveland, 5-3
The Pittsburgh Mechanics besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Cleveland center fielder Bob Albertson by beating the Grays, 5-3, at Cocker Park. Albertson went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. The win was credited to Randy Boroughs in relief. His record improves to 5-3. Lou Triantos took the loss. After today's action, Pittsburgh sits at 40-29; Cleveland slips to 37-37.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Charlie Johnson came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Cleveland pitcher Lou Triantos, he hit a 1-0 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Pittsburgh on top, 4-3.

"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Johnson.
