The game between Kansas City and Seattle is in the books, despite a little rain.

The Kansas City Mavericks besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Seattle left fielder Jesse Scott by beating the Kings, 5-3, at Seattle Municipal Stadium. Scott went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Willie Spencer picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-0. He struck out 1 in 6 innings. Dave Dalton earned the save for Kansas City, his 1st.

In the top of the 6th, shortstop Sam Pratt gave Kansas City the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Mavericks had been trailing 2-1, but the two-out single off Seattle pitcher Swede Hawkins changed that -- and Kansas City went on to win.

Said Kansas City manager Sakan Hashizume: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."

The win puts Kansas City at 1-1.
