| Pioneers Fall Short, 4-3, at Los Angeles | Los Angeles shortstop Tom Lally contributed significantly to his team's 4-3 win over the St. Louis Pioneers. Lally, who finished 3rd in the FA in hits with 193 last year, went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Suns. Moe Powell got the win, improving to 1-1. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 3. Ron Clark was called on to finish, recording his 6th save.
With the game tied, 3-3, in the bottom of the seventh, Lally had a key at-bat for Los Angeles. With the bases loaded, Lally hit a run-scoring single off Lloyd Henson, making the score 4-3, Suns.
"I like our mindset right now," said Los Angeles manager Jim Coulter.
The Suns, now 13-6, have been red hot. | |
