Despite a great performance by Philadelphia third baseman Leon Stapleton, the Washington Eagles defeated the Keystones by the score of 8-5 at Columbia Stadium. Stapleton was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Reliever Jim Hodges picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. George Britton took the loss. The save went to Doc Lindley, his 1st this season.

Washington left fielder Joe Cantrell helped the Eagles go up, 6-5, in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the game tied, Cantrell hit a run-scoring single off Philadelphia pitcher George Britton.

"We came out aggressive," said Eagles manager Joe D'Aprile. "We came out swinging the bats."

The Keystones fall to 6-9.
