Cougars Park was host to some intense drama.

Chicago overcame a superior effort from Emmett Thornton to beat New York, 5-4. The New York pitcher threw 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball. Roger Alford, who leads the CA in complete games with 3, was the winner. He's now 3-1. The loser was Ed Cooper.

Chicago got a knockout punch from Bob Menz. The right fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Menz.

New York is now 8-8.
