| Minutemen Handled by Chicago, 7-5 | The Chicago Chiefs downed the Boston Minutemen, 7-5. The hitting star was catcher Chris Wells. Wells went 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Chiefs. Johnny Maples was the winner. Over 5.1 innings, he yielded 5 runs on 9 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Hal Alsip closed it out for his 3rd save.
Harry McDaniel had a big 2-run double for the Chiefs in the bottom of the first inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 27-year old right-handed pitcher Hank Springer and swatted a double to center. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Chiefs ahead, 3-0.
McDaniel told a Chicago News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
Chicago's record now stands at 33-52, placing them 5th in the Federal Association West. | |
