The St. Louis Pioneers defeated the Boston Minutemen, 9-3, in Federal Association action at Minuteman Stadium. Paul Watson pulled his weight. The 14-year veteran belted 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. St. Louis now has a record of 76-48 with the win.

St. Louis used the stroke of Jerry Smith to get the win. The left fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the second inning to put the Pioneers ahead, 7-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"Nice win for us," said Watson. "Now we'll go after the next one."
