| Boston Topples Baltimore, 5-1 | Boston Minutemen starter Bill Kelly was dealing. He helped his team knock off the Baltimore Clippers, 5-1. Kelly, now 5-8, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The last-place Minutemen have won 4 straight games.
Dick Wood had a big 2-run double for the Minutemen in the bottom of the third inning. With Boston leading 2-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Buck Guthrie, who is tied for 9th in the FA in complete games with 1, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Minutemen ahead, 4-0.
"I just tried to stick to my strengths," said Kelly. | |
