Los Angeles Beats Chicago, 9-4 | Los Angeles and Chicago put this game in the books despite some rain.
Los Angeles Stars starter Cal Johnston pitched a strong game against the Chicago Cougars at Cougars Park, leading the Stars to victory, 9-4. Johnston yielded 3 runs over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 2-3.
Los Angeles used a clutch at-bat from Virgil Ewing to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Stars ahead, 6-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Chicago manager Buck Cuppett.
The win elevated the Stars to 22-17. | |
