Hackberry Goes Deep Twice in 9-5 Sailors Win | The San Francisco Sailors defeated the Dallas Wranglers, 9-5, in Continental Association action at Golden Gate Stadium. Edwin Hackberry pulled his weight. The 17-year veteran hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4. San Francisco raised its record to 21-18 with the win.
Larry McLaren had a big 3-run home run for the Sailors in the bottom of the sixth inning. With San Francisco trailing 5-4 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a splitter from Gene Amico, who is tied for 2nd in the CA in saves with 8, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Sailors on top, 7-5.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Hackberry said in reaction to the win. | |
