Starting pitcher Joe Nelson pitched well enough to help the New York Gothams beat the Washington Eagles, 4-3. New York pitcher Jeff Pettigrew got the win. He's now 5-8. Jim Stewart was tagged with the loss. New York, at 40-40, occupies 4th place in the Federal Association East.

Carl Bramlett aided the New York cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the third baseman went 1-2 with a walk.

"Joe doing his thing just hyped us all up," said New York manager Charlie Foley.
