The Los Angeles Suns used a great performance from fan favorite Gary Preston to beat the St. Louis Pioneers, 1-0, at Wilshire Park. The setback makes St. Louis 39-39.

Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 35-year old first baseman Jack Drake had a real shot to win the game. St. Louis pitcher Curly Anderson was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Drake hit a run-scoring single. The Suns had a walk-off triumph.

"Gary went out and got the job done," said Suns manager Jim Coulter.
