| Copperheads Win 16th Straight, Take Down Clippers, 5-3 | Atlanta second baseman Al Hubbard helped his team beat the Baltimore Clippers, 5-3. Hubbard, who won the Whitney Award in 1973, went 3 for 5 for the Copperheads. Buddy Thomas was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 15 of 16 save opportunities. Atlanta has won 16 consecutive games.
Howard Smith was 1 for 4, while adding 2 RBI for Atlanta. The three-time Diamond Defense Award winner had a key at-bat in the top of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jose Martinez. It was his 28th RBI of the season.
