| Kings Topple Saints, 8-4, as Newman Shines | Kansas City third baseman Ken Newman played a vital role in his team's 8-4 conquest of Montreal. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for Kansas City. The Kings raised their record to 57-56.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Bryan Jeffress came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Montreal pitcher Bob Nelson, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Kansas City on top, 5-4.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Kansas City manager Glenn Carney.
