Eagles Subdue Chiefs, 5-3 | The Washington Eagles defeated the Chicago Chiefs, 5-3, in Federal Association action at Columbia Stadium. Washington pitcher Walt Staton had a standout performance. Staton picked up the win for Washington, going 6 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 2-0. Today's win puts Washington at 66-50, while Chicago falls to 59-53.
The Eagles got a big hit from pinch hitter Jim Roberts. In the bottom of the sixth, Roberts smacked a 2-run double off Chicago pitcher Fred Moore. It was his 9th double of the season. Suddenly, the Eagles were ahead, 3-2.
