| Minutemen Snatch 4-3 Win from Clippers | The Baltimore Clippers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Joe McDowell into a win. Instead, the Boston Minutemen prevailed, 4-3. McDowell threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Boston reliever Bud Shireman, who is tied for 3rd in the FA in saves with 13, was credited with the win. His record goes to 7-3. Larry Warren took the loss for Baltimore. The second-place Minutemen have a record of 41-34.
Boston got a clutch hit from Ed Cole. The catcher socked a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was game-ender.
"That was a backyard tug-of-war," said Minutemen manager Dode Edwards. | |
