| Gothams Dealt 5-3 Loss by Atlanta | The Atlanta Copperheads finished off the New York Gothams, 5-3. Much of the credit belonged to shortstop John Newton. Newton went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 times for the Copperheads. Bill Hunn earned the save for Atlanta, his 5th. The winning streak has now reached 13 games for Atlanta.
The Copperheads got a big at-bat from catcher Howard Smith. For the game, Smith was 1 for 4 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Atlanta a 4-3 lead.
"This game is about whoever is putting up more runs," said Copperheads manager Don Fox. "Simple as that." | |
