| Chiefs Score Late, Clip Pioneers, 2-1 | Pitching was the name of the game for the Chicago Chiefs and the St. Louis Pioneers. Chicago won it, 2-1, in 10 innings. Chicago starter Johnny Maples was in command. Chicago reliever Joe Rice picked up the win to move to 2-0. Lloyd Ethridge suffered the loss. By defeating St. Louis, the 5th-place Chiefs improved to 29-47.
Up to bat in the bottom of the tenth, four-time All-Star Joe Siniscalchi had a chance to be the hero. St. Louis pitcher Lloyd Ethridge wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Siniscalchi grounded out, driving in 1 run. The Chiefs had themselves a thrilling win.
"Tough wins, hard-earned wins, feel extra good," said Siniscalchi. | |
