| Copperheads Earn 6-2 Home Win | Atlanta second baseman Al Hubbard helped his team beat the New York Gothams, 6-2. Hubbard, who finished 3rd in the FA in runs with 109 in 1971, went 4 for 5 for the Copperheads. Howie Burt picked up the win, lifting his record to 7-3 on the season. He struck out 3 and walked 1 in 7 innings, while yielding 2 runs. Atlanta has run its win streak to 11 in a row.
Howard Smith helped his team take an early lead with a 2-run single. It came in the first inning, making the score 3-0, Copperheads.
"Everybody is chipping in right now," said Hubbard. "That's what makes it so much fun."
