The Los Angeles Stars beat the Chicago Cougars, 7-5, at Bigsby Stadium. The Stars got a fine performance from left fielder Mike Stevenson, who was 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. John Herzog locked down his 2nd save. Los Angeles now owns a record of 46-28.

The Stars got a big hit from shortstop Lew Smith. Facing Chicago pitcher Hal Adams in the bottom of the fifth, Smith pounded a 3-run home run to left. His 6th home run of the season put the Stars ahead, 6-5.

In postgame comments to the Los Angeles Herald, Smith said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
